Health is Wealth

As Entrepreneurs our plates are overflowing, we all wish there were more than 24 hours in a day.  I applaud you for some time out for yourself, so let's talk.

We’ve all heard the catchphrase: Health is Wealth. I hate calling it a “catchphrase,” because that makes it sound like it’s empty or meaningless. But, let’s face it, it IS a catchphrase – it’s short, simple, and easy to remember.

It’s also the truth.

What do we mean we say, “Health is Wealth”?

Well, when you think about traditional wealth – financial wealth – what comes to mind? Personally, when I think of material wealth, I think security. I think stability. I think about being at peace and having a sense of wellbeing because you can handle any problem that comes up.

Now, when I think about health – the state of your body, mind, and spirit – I truthfully think about many of the same things. Good health can provide us with that same...

Final Call

Last Call to Let it GO!

Sometimes our past struggles, can weigh heavily on our shoulders, holding us back and preventing us from living in the moment and being who we really know we could become.

However, letting go of the past can be difficult. Letting go of negative experiences, bad habits, false beliefs, unhealthy relationships and people…  This comes easier to some than others.   I guess because I have experienced pain so much in my lifetime, I sometimes wonder if I am "numb" to it.  Lost my Mom.  Dad incarcerated for life.  Bitter divorce and custody battles.  My first love passed away. Pain no longer hurts.  As a matter of fact, faith fuels my future!  Feel free to read my story in my latest book The Nurse Echelon: A Victorious Nurse Anthology" now available on Amazon.com .

As a result, we allow rumination, worry and fear to take over our mind and shape our actions in the present. But by holding on to the past,...

Know your business

Know your business. This seems simple…... right?  How could one not know something that they've created after many years spent praying and prepping for this moment.  Would you believe that this is actually true?  Some people are so caught up with the fine details and a lack of patience that they forget to have an intimate conversation with their business. So, what does that mean? It means that some people haven't got a clue about what their business is, what it represents and who it is targeted towards simply because they haven’t spent enough time getting to know it.

Here is a perfect example. A few years ago, a lady approached me about her "business." She was into making crafts and wanted to win me over as a customer. She had a few pieces with her that I looked over and liked, but I wasn't wanting to purchase at the moment. I was, however, interested in connecting with her at a later time and asked her some very specific questions. I...

Nursing and Business can get a weird sometimes

When I think of my childhood, one of the first things my brother and I always did was grab the TV downstairs to watch one of the best cartoons EVER – Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang. The cartoons, by Warner Brothers, was the highlight of our Saturday mornings eating cereal while watching the antics of Bugs, Daffy, Wiley Coyote, Porky Pig, the Tazmanian Devil (“Taz” for short), and the rest of the gang unknowingly competed for our affection as the best remembered and mimicked one for the day.

The affection for this animated band of characters was worldwide. Looney Tunes was introduced as a series of short films that ran from 1930-1969 (considered by some to be the golden age of animation). Some of the most famous animators and voice-over actors shared their talents (Chuck Jones and Mel Blanc, just to name a couple). The business of Looney Tunes took off as well – TV series, films, video games, merchandise, and amusement parks are all...

Why aren't Nurses taught business basics?

Universal coverage or not? Primary Care MD or ACO's/PMH's. Internal Medicine or Advanced Nurse Practitioners for Family Care? Go to Walgreens or Walmart for screenings? Nursing Shortage or Not? Mandated Staffing or no? BSN in 10 or not? Turnover vs Burnout...the list goes on and on... While Healthcare figures out which way is up---> what are we doing to share with our future nurses the vast opportunities that lay at their feet? Is Nursing about us or them? You see, healthcare is big enough to have an endless amount of players in the game. But will Nurses be happy and stick around for the long haul? That is a question that only an individual can answer. My personal and business mission however is to at least share the option of Entrepreneurship with our future Nurses. Healthcare is a highly profitable industry (Home Health Agencies, Assisted Living Facilities, CPR schools, etc.) and most times, without Nurses much of the required work could not be carried out. I enjoy empowering...

3 Tips to Lead Teams on a Budget

This idea already has two inherent challenges within it. Leading others and leading others on a budget. It would seem that leading on its own would already be a harrowing challenge, but then how take on such a daunting task without the financial prowess of a large company behind you. If you look to some of the great leaders of our time, you’ll most often find them at the helm of a large organization with years of amassed fortune to back them. They’ve got the budget to make fancy videos, network with other power players and advertise in every medium.

How then can someone who is currently only just starting a business hope to successfully lead a team with just few resources on hand?  Must we find success before we start creating a team?

1- Remove the barriers!

First let’s clear up the beliefs we have that will self sabotage our intentions and get in our own way.

Luckily, money and resources are not a...
